Description
The Peltier, or commonly known as a Thermoelectric cooler, can generate a temperature differential when powered, where one side will get cold while the other side gets hot. A heatsink is usually attached to the hot side to dissipate heat so that the Peltier can constantly generate a certain temperature.
It can be used for cooling or controlling the temperature of miniature electronic components such as infra-red detector chips, microwave IC’s, fibre-optic lasers and detectors. Alternatively, it may be used to minimise the effects of temperature coefficients on oscillator stability, reference voltages, amplifier offsets etc. by providing temperature control.
